Summerboard SBX

Initally I had nothing but problems with my Summerboard, it was a real let down, because of various electrical hardware failiures/faults. Ride and Glide were absolutely fantastic in sorting out all the problems & getting the various replacement parts from the US. In the end, after a cascade of problems, R&G had to get Summerboard to send all new control boards, motors, & a new battery, basically everything bar the the deck & wheels. I've had the board, fully working & problem free for nearly 2 months now and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. I generally ride the board along Bournemouth beach promenade & some gravel tracks local to me & the board handles little lumps and bumps smoothly with no problems. I should point out that i only have very minor previous skate board experience back when i was a kid, I am now 50, so i take it pretty easy. I've had loads of people (pedestrians & other boarders) stop and ask me about it, the first thing I say to anybody is if you're going to buy one then buy it through Ride and Glide, incase of any problems. If you buy one I would recommend watching all the training videos because although it does feel alot like snowboarding the techneque is a bit different. Follow the advice, and wear a helmet. You will fall off & tarmac isn't as forgiving as snow. So my conclusion would be, get an SBX if you want that snowboard feeling. It takes a bit of time to get used to riding the SBX, but once you get used to it, you'll be grinning like a Cheshire Cat. Buy through RIDE and GLIDE just incase you get unlucky like me & get a duff board. Ride and Glide were absolutely fantastic and if I ever want another electric board or a bike I am definately going to buy through them because of their excellent customer service, knowledge & experience.

Summerboard SBX

Been thinking about buying one of these for a long time, I already own a Onewheel XR (which is brilliant) but keep getting tempted by the thought of “snowboarding” instead of “gliding” (summerboard instead of Onewheel). So I figured the only way to decide what’s best is to find out myself and commit to owning one!! When the SBX turned up (next day), the packaging is nothing to get excited about, almost a plain brown box with minimal packing inside, but once opened the board is solid and well made. My Onewheel is built like a tank, with top notch build quality so the SBX needs to compare with that if it’s gonna get off to a good start. Overall I’d say the SBX is nearly as good as the Onewheel in terms of quality, one of the castors wasn’t buttery smooth out the box and after a bit of internet research I found out how to take it apart and fix it. It’s been perfect since, but not a good impression when your first action is a bit of a minor fix!! Once both the controller and the board were fully charged, I headed off for some smooth tarmac. First impressions were fantastic, you really need to watch the online training videos, they genuinely help you get started. It’s not as easy as I’d hoped, but it’s well worth the effort to sort your balance out on the castors. As soon as you crack that and get a bit of speed on, your carving turns and it’s brilliant!! You definitely need some space and some smooth ground to give you the best start (and some time). Overall my impressions of the SBX are good, is it better than my Onewheel? That’s not the right question to ask, why? Because it’s just a totally different experience to a Onewheel. It’s a little more niche, but if snowboarding is your thing then it’s brilliant. Just make sure you’ve got some nice smooth ground to enjoy it, especially while your learning the ropes. But then apparently you can buy the Freshies to shred rougher ground, so maybe when they come back in stock I’ll be after some.

  • What's your main use of the vehicle? Urban riding
  • How fast is it? Slow & steadyAbsolutely rapid
  • How good is the braking? PoorExcellent
  • What's the ride comfort like? Bone-shakerRiding a cloud
  • What's the range like? LowExcellent

The Summerboard is the closest thing you will get to shredding all year round. It blasts up hills where there is a 20% gradient. It tops out at speeds upto 25mph and gives you 12 miles of pure carving. The 12 Miles range has been based on a 72kg rider riding at 15 mph. You can cruise over grass or packed dirt but it is not built for riding exclusively off-road. The Summerboard is water-resistant but definately do not submerse the board in water! It is important to remember though that the bearings are not waterproof.

The Swappable battery makes this product incredibly appealing for the fact that you can shred double the distance without having to stop and recharge. Its an outstanding feature and is always a real game changer for this industry. There is the option of the  hyper charger too which takes the charge down from 4 hours to 2.5 hours, which in an impatient world is ideal! You will be able to continue the Zen of cruising around on your Summerboard but with the speed of a fast charger or/ and swappable battery at your disposal! The Summerboard is unique and is a must for the people who want to carve all year round! Any other questions just shout or call the store!
