The VSETT 8 is, for me, the perfect entry level machine. After having completed over 500 miles I can say that I feel comfortable and its ability to navigate in urban environments is ideal.
The ride quality is smooth and the suspension is able to tackle all that has come its way riding in a city environment.
The display is bright and I have had no issues making out the information displayed in sunny and bright environments. However, should you have issues you can rotate the display by loosening the Alan key grub screw and fix it in a position that allows better visuals. To be honest I haven't had to re-adjust it since owning the scooter. A multitool that includes various Alan keys is included when you purchase a VSETT 8.
I have the 48V 15.6Ah version and will use it to commute up to 12miles every day, I use the max speed setting and will still have enough 'juice' left to keep going. I can get more mileage out of the scooter if I use the lower speed setting.
At 20Kg its at the top end of weight of what I feel comfortable carrying up and down stairs. Its not the lightest scooter but this is a slight sacrifice when you think about the range and speed you can achieve with this machine.
Brakes - The scooter uses drum brakes and whilst they work without any problems I feel like these could be improved slightly or perhaps newer models could include at least one disc brake. I had one issue with the front brake where the brake line disconnected from the retaining holder for the front wheel. This rendered the front brake useless as there was no longer an tension on the line when the brake lever was pulled. Unsure why this happened so early on but it was relatively simple to place back into position and it is not a problem that has re-occurred since. Not sure if this has happened to anyone else?
Default Settings - The scooter will come pre-loaded with some default settings which I recommend you change. One of them being the cruise control mode. As standard the scooter will put you in cruise control mode when the acceleration trigger is held down for longer than 2-3 seconds this can be a little unsettling at first but it will automatically come out of cruise control when the brake levers are depressed. I recommend you turn the cruise control function off. For me, it just feels like I'm more in control of the machine but I guess it depends on what your riding style is and where you're riding. The booklet that comes with the scooter will explain how to do this.
Lights - The LED lights and LED strip light make the scooter highly visible to others around you. However, the lights will not assist much in lighting the way for YOU to see. The indicators are incredibly useful, the control for these are integrated into the handlebars and are operated using your thumb. They stay on/blink for quite a while after. A new feature where you can cancel the indicator by pressing the button again would be a great addition to the scooter but this is only something that I have noticed after much riding and isn't a necessity, just nitpicking.
Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase and can highly recommend this scooter for new riders and those already experienced in riding.
